David Lynch directs the 8 times Oscar® nominated true and poignant story of The Elephant Man, released on DVD for the first time in the UK as part of The Director's Chair Collection.
John Merrick (John Hurt) is severely deformed at birth by a rare disease. His grossly disfigured face manifests the features of an elephant. Trapped in a travelling freak show Merrick suffers the torment of an outcast from society until a young surgeon called Dr. Frederick Treves (Sir Anthony Hopkins) rescues him. The moving tale unravels as Treves discovers that beneath Merrick's monstrous facade lies a gentle and peaceful man.
With it's oustanding cast, subtle and touching script The Elephant Man proves to be one of David Lynch's finest.
